The Uneeda Doll Company was founded in 1917 and located in Brooklyn, New York, where they produced dolls until 1991. Uneeda dolls were produced in varying quality as well as price. Uneeda produced dolls made of cloth, composition, hard plastic and then vinyl dolls with rooted hair. In the 1930's Uneeda was advertising over 400 dolls from 14" to 28" tall. Like other companies, Uneeda was quick to follow the trend toward high-heeled dolls. They were one of the many companies that imitated the successful Ideal Revlon dolls with the swivel waists. Unfortunately, many of the Uneeda dolls are often without identifying marks. Those that are marked are found with the words Uneeda inside a diamond, U or UN, or some of the later dolls have Tony Toy Co Hong Kong, in the marking.
Uneeda 2S Head
Uneeda Doll with 2S Head This is a gorgeous Uneeda fashion doll with a 2S head circa 1956 - 1967. Yes, this is the same head used for the Miss Dollikin dolls. She also has a twist and turn waist similar to the popular Ideal Miss Revlon dolls. Our "Lady in Red" is dressed in a red satinish dress with a cream taffeta attached slip with red trim. She is wearing what I believe to be her original necklace, earrings and bracelet. When I purchased the doll, she was also wearing a beautiful rabbit fur coat. I cannot say the coat is original to the doll, as I have found pictures of the same coat on a variety of different dolls from different companies. The doll's hair has been restyled, so it is not in the original set. Doll is from the collection of V. Donally.
