SUSAN GIBSON DOLLS

Susan Gibson is acknowledged as one of the most outstanding doll designers today.  Susan began her career in costume design and sculpting.  When she was 13 years old, she started creating costumes for her father's ballet troupe.  She later taught ballet and soon found her calling in sculpting dolls modeled after the dancers.  Susan quickly became recognized in the doll society.  In 1973 she created her first series, the Kalico Kids, as Christmas presents for her four sisters.  The story surrounding the dolls is "mostly true and autobiographical," except that she has four sisters and three brothers.

In addition to the Kalico Kids, Susan Gibson also created a fine collection of vinyl Baby Dolls, International Dolls, Storybook and Nursery Rhyme dolls and her interpretation of the Smithsonian Institution "First Ladies." For over 39 years, Susan Gibson created dolls to be played with by children and to be collected by collectors.  She has distinguished herself with a unique and creative style.  Her dolls will be cherished for many years to come.

KALICO KIDS - FELT VERSION

The dolls below are from Suzanne Gibson's Kalico Kids Collection.  They are each about 23 inches tall and made of felt.  These dolls were produced around 1973.  Scroll down further to see how each of these lovely dolls was constructed.  Please note that the dolls we have no longer had their seals on them.  The names given to each doll is only our best guess based on the appearance of the vinyl dolls.

SUZANNE GIBSON NURSERY RHYME & STORYBOOK CHARACTERS

Please enjoy our growing collection of Suzanne Gibson Storybook and Nursery Rhyme characters.  Where I could, I tried to also post the nursery rhyme with the character.  These all vinyl dolls are beautifully dressed in fun, brightly colored outfits.  These dolls are also pictured in the 1983 Suzanne Gibson catalog found in our Learning Center!  Click on the pictures for a larger view!

When she wanted to wander
Would ride through the air
On a very find gander
Jack's mother came in
And caught the goose soon
And mounting it's back
Flew up to the moon
