Perhaps one of the most popular American doll companies, Ideal produced dolls from 1907 until they closed in the early 1980s. You do not have to be a doll collector to recognize the many popular dolls produced by Ideal in the early to mid-20th century. Ideal produced such beloved dolls as: Shirley Temple, Saucy Walker, Betsy Wetsy, Toni, Miss Revlon, Tammy, Betsy McCall, Crissy, Flatsy and many others. Ideal manufactured dolls using composition, vinyl and hard plastic. Even though some of their earlier composition dolls can be found unmarked, Ideal dolls are easily identified by markings found on the backs of the doll's neck and/or found on her upper back. Marks can vary but the most common one found is simply IDEAL DOLL, sometimes followed by MADE IN THE USA and preceded or followed by a few letters or numbers (these indicate a model).
As always, if you have a wonderful Ideal doll in your collection and you would like to share it on this website, please contact me to find out how to submit you photos!!
